Have you ever thought "there must be a theory that explains or encapsulates everything!" I mean everything in the universe, no matter how big, or small; every molecule, every organism, every thought, every action, absolutely everything. I recently read Ken Wilbur's book entitled "A Theory Of Everything" and guess what he actually has created a theory that encapsulates everything in the universe. In Wilbur's theory, everything fits in and has it's place. He covers political parties and makes no party wrong. Every party is important and has it's place in this model. It covers black and white people, differing educational backgrounds, different socio economic backgrounds, psychological theories and more.
Wilbur calls it an "integral vision for business, politics, science and spirituality" and that's what it is. He also makes no claim that this is the truth, and says that this theory is more than likely, at some point going to be superseded. What I like about Wilbur's theory is that it's inclusive, and even though there will always be people who disagree with a particular theory, he even explains different groups' stances and it totally makes sense as to why we disagree.
The world is flat right? It just depends on where you're looking from and what information you're ready to hear as to whether the world really is flat for you.
Wilbur talks about the evolution of spiral dynamics and body, mind, soul and spirit. I love that these concepts are so holistic. The last chapter even provides a brief outline for a possible model to develop your own integral pracitce, as it is our integral daily practices that help to open our minds and hearts to transformation.
I love the inclusiveness of this theory. I also love Dr.David R Hawkins' Power vs Force, The Hidden Determinants of Human Behaviour and his scale of "levels of consciousness". The scale of consciousness from 0-1,000 could perhaps be misinterpreted by some as a heirarchy and that heirarchies are bad ie indicating that if you calibrate higher on the scale you are better than someone who calibrates lower on the scale. This is a classic misinterpretation of the scale and of heirarchies full stop. Interestingly Wilbur's theory is multi-level and multi-dimensional and while it still includes levels of consciousness, perhaps people who may reject the 0-1,000 scale, may be able to see and understand the logic of The Theory of Everything. And no I haven't calibrated it, just in case you're wondering.
Both are great authors and abolutely inspiring human beings to say the least in their thought processes and ability to create what they have and impact the level of consciousness of humanity. I highly recommend reading their material.
Interestingly Wilbur's theory is an "integral theory" and coincidently I created Integrity Cosmetics, long before I read his book...and yet, there's no such thing as a coincidence.
I could write about both authors and their work, for ages, and I can't wait to read more of Ken Wilbur's work and to review Power vs Force too. However I won't spoil it for you, why don't you have a read yourself.
